Overview of the Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science aims to develop human resources that are equipped with the information technology that is the foundation of modern society and capable of realizing the next generation of new information system, and building a human-friendly advanced information society.
In addition, we aims to develop human resources equipped with capabilities and the sensibility of advancing the existing theories and technologies so as to create a rich information society and of performing further research and of developing more advanced theories and technologies.

In order to do so, three education fields (Computer Networking, Computational Intelligence and Multimedia/HCI) have been established to allow students to learn information infrastructure technology that supports the modern society, as well as to acquire information network technology, that is vital for the realization of a more advanced information society of the future, intelligence information technology and media information technology.
There are 3 undergraduate fields under the department that cover Computer Networking, Computational Intelligence and Multimedia/HCI and 4 Graduate fields for Computer Networking, Computational Intelligence, Multimedia/HCI and Mathematical Science.

The Department covers three areas of learning as stated above in principle. In each of the education field, students will learn in courses, experiment and exercises, exclusive knowledge having the characteristics of respective education fields on the basis of the foundation subjects that are common in the Department.

Field of Networks

This field is intended to foster human resources that will be capable of building not only network of existing mobile phones and the Internet but also a new information network system that is expected to be developed in the future or performing research and developing thereof.
Networks initially developed were that the main frame and a dedicated terminal connected with cable from the manufacture, and different manufactures developed network technologies having different standards, causing problems with mutual connections. Currently, the Internet (TCP / IP) is the technology that has become widely used.
For this reason, students will learn primarily about hardware, software as well as information network understanding from theory to practice so as to acquire knowledge, creativity and technical capability to build and develop the next generation of information network system.

Field of Computational Intelligence

This field is intended to foster creative human resources capable of performing research and development of a system to achieve a high degree of intelligence processing, such as knowledge processing, reasoning and learning which can be a foundation for the next generation of information processing society.
Information processing means processing of original “information” to obtain information in different forms through calculation, processing and extraction, etc. Students will learn basic theory of representation, inference and learning of knowledge required for intelligence processing, as well as theory and practice of intelligence robots, sensitivity information, neural information, agent, natural language processing, code-encryption systematically through programming, with mathematical as its foundation.
